Welcome
The 11th International Symposium on Sleep and Breathing Conference will be conducted over a two-and-a-half day period from the morning of Thursday, September 10th to noon on Saturday, September 12th at the Sheraton Hotel Station Square Conference Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Continuing in the spirit of the previous International Symposia, the 2009 venue will provide a forum for dissemination and discussion of novel scientific information related to Sleep and Breathing. However, there will be an additional emphasis on showcasing the work of junior investigators who are under the mentorship of respected senior scientists, with presentation of new and cutting edge data.
Internationally respected senior investigators with on-going high-level research will sponsor a junior faculty member, fellow, or graduate student to present original, preferably unpublished data, along the lines of an American Thoracic Society mini-symposium presentation. The goals of this approach are to provide an opportunity to discuss the newest and highest quality original data while giving an appropriate 'stage' and interactive opportunity to the next generation of researchers. All invited attendees are encouraged to present their own data in the poster sessions to be held in conjunction with the symposia, with the most meritorious also being selected for oral presentation. The scientific sessions will cover a full range of topics including the pathogenesis of sleep apnea and cardiovascular, metabolic, and inflammatory consequences.
The Conference will include a series of evening social events that highlight the rich cultural and historic significance of Pittsburgh, as well as promote discussion among the conference attendees. We plan to open the Conference with a Welcome Reception at the Warhol Museum on the evening of Wednesday September 9, prior to the first scientific session on Thursday morning. On Thursday evening we will have a dinner reception at the Pittsburgh PPG Aquarium, and the final social event of the conference will be the Appreciation and Farewell Dinner on the spectacular lawns of the historic Frick Mansion in Pittsburgh.
We are pleased to acknowledge that Pittsburgh-based Philips-Respironics has agreed to be the Symposium Sponsor for daytime conference facilities, daytime meals, and evening social events.
We hope that you are interested in attending the 11th International Symposium on Sleep and Breathing Conference in Pittsburgh (limited to the first two hundred registrants) and look forward to welcoming you to Western Pennsylvania in September 2009.
